Cabin Getaway Photo Diary

all

Austin and I are nearing the end of long distance, and as such have found ourselves feeling very impatient and quite frankly “over it” (it being the distance), so when our spring term breaks from classes overlapped by a weekend, we said ~screw it~ and found a little Airbnb somewhat evenly between the two of us in our respective states. Quite a few hours of driving later we found ourselves in Wisconsin, at quite possibly the most darling cabin I have ever seen.

This cabin was quite small: 1 bedroom with a double bed, and a small loft upstairs with two kid-sized beds. 1 bathroom right off the kitchen, and the kitchen/living room was 1 room in the center of the cabin. It was the perfect size for us, and would be suitable for one couple with 1-2 small kids, but for parties larger than that, I don’t think this cabin would be the best size.

The wood burning stove in the center of the cabin ended up being our favorite part of this place. It added such an ambience, and we spent most of the evenings on the sofa in front of the stove reading, watching TV, or chatting.

It also had a (stunning) vintage bookshelf under the stairs to the loft full of amazing titles, including one of my favorites, To The Lighthouse. If you end up visiting here, there is no need to bring your own books, there are an abundance of amazing titles already there, many of which are beautiful old editions that just have that ~old book smell~, you know?

p.s. this nightgown is by Eileen West!

One thing about wood burning stoves is that they go through firewood quite quickly. Many trips to and from the firewood pile were necessary, but I didn’t mind venturing out into the pine forest that surrounds the cabin - the smell alone was intoxicatingly wonderful.

We also ventured into the nearby town for breakfast at a local diner, and then a few hours of antiquing/thrifting. I had some great finds that I am very excited about!

Lastly, the front of this cabin did open up to a decent sized pond, that was sadly frozen over while we were there. But I imagine during the warmer months it adds a lovely touch of ambience to an already picturesque spot.

All in all it was such a lovely weekend, and one that I am so incredibly grateful for. When Austin and I started dating at 17, this kind of weekend was exactly the kind of thing we used to dream about. It feels surreal to have one of our mutual dreams come to fruition.
